About
Stefano Sorrentino, Marco Ferrante and Alessandro Fortunato are bringing the vocal tradition of Naples to Vienna. The city has not only given the world its great tenors, but also a repertoire of songs that are still sung everywhere today – from »‘O sole mio« to »Funiculì, funiculà«, which was originally written as an advertising jingle for the Vesuvius funicular. The evening spans the spectrum from opera to art song: Verdi’s »La donna è mobile«, Puccini’s »Nessun dorma«, as well as the intermezzo from Mascagni’s »Cavalleria rusticana« in a piano trio. At the heart of the programme is a Christmas section featuring Schubert’s »Ave Maria«, »Adeste fideles«, »White Christmas« and »Tu scendi dalle stelle« – the quintessential Italian Christmas carol, written by a Neapolitan. To round off the programme, the classics of the canzone napoletana and Lucio Dallas’s »Caruso«, a tribute to Enrico Caruso, after whom the ensemble is named. Three tenors, a piano trio, a repertoire spanning the opera stage and the Gulf of Naples.
