Jaap van Zweden returns to lead the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in a program spanning the drama of Brrthoven, the poetic intimacy of German Lieber, and the wit of Shostakovich. Baritone Matthias Goerne joins the orchestra in orchestrated songs by Schubert and Richard Strauss, revealing profound emotional depth and lyrical beauty. The concert opens with Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and concludes with Shostakovich's Symphony No.9, a brilliant work fillied with humor, irony, and unexpected vitality.
