About
This program centers on the concertos and sinfonia concertantes that most decisively shaped J.C. Bach's legacy and influence on later generations. It includes the Piano Concerto in E-flat major, Wq. 7 No. 5, completed in 1770, as well as two sinfonia concertantes composed in 1775, works that highlight the intricate, conversational interplay among multiple soloists. The program also presents the Cello Concerto in C minor, Wq. 77, a work long misattributed to J.C. Bach. In fact, it is a later stylistic imitation composed by a subsequent musician, reflecting the far-reaching impact of the musical language associated with the so-called "London Bach." Performed on a replica of a fortepiano modeled after instruments by Anton Walter (1752–1826) from the 1790s, the concert restores the sound world most familiar to Classical-era composers, offering contemporary listeners an immersive listening experience that closely evokes the musical aesthetics of the eighteenth century.
