About
Established in June 1946, the Department of Music at National Taiwan Normal University has spanned eighty glorious years, serving as a vital microcosm of the development and talent cultivation history of Taiwan's musical landscape. For more than half a century, the department has nurtured countless exceptional music educators, internationally acclaimed performers, composers, and conductors, with its alumni leaving their footprint across the globe. The NTNU Department of Music has consistently shouldered the pioneering role of leading Taiwan's music education, academic research, and professional performance. Marking this significant 80th-anniversary historical milestone, the department connects the past with the future through this commemorative concert, serving not only as a heartfelt tribute to its history but also as a showcase of the exceptional energy of cross-generational transmission. Following this is American composer Michael Abels's Delights and Dances, a work filled with rhythmic drive and striking color contrasts that symbolize the creativity and vitality of the new generation of musicians. The second half features German composer Carl Orff's masterpiece Carmina Burana, presenting the manifold facets of fate, love, and life through magnificent choral and orchestral forces. Performed in collaboration with the Taipei Philharmonic Youth and Children's Choir alongside the department's exceptional students, this grand finale showcases the robust performance capacity of the NTNU Department of Music. The entire concert is conducted by Professor Mei-Ann Chen, uniting the musical prowess of faculty and students to present a musically significant and artistically compelling feast for the department's anniversary.
