Paavo Järvi & Khatia Buniatishvili

The Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili has opened this season as the focus artist with Tchaikovsky. Towards the end of the season, she presents Grieg's piano concerto, inspired by Schumann; leaving Tchaikovsky to the orchestra and Paavo Järvi. They will perform Symphony No. 1, which Tchaikovsky wrote when he was 26. He had to wait two years for the premiere, which was a great success; according to a contemporary report, he was so happy during the subsequent celebration that he kissed all the attendees and broke many glasses.
