About
One has never heard Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 like this: Our focus artist Wayne Marshall leads it with organ improvisations. And Paavo Järvi conducts for once not the original version, but Mahler's arrangement – fitting to our Mahler cycle. This version is significantly more opulent in sound than Beethoven's original: The wind instrumentation is strengthened, additionally, wind instruments often play string parts. Mahler, who was also one of the most successful conductors of his time, wanted to strengthen the effect of the music with this instrumentation – also considering the significantly larger concert halls since Beethoven's time.
