About
Beethoven composed 16 String Quartets, over a period of approximately a quarter century he developed the genre from the succession of Haydn to works reaching far into the future. In Beethoven Year 2027, the Belcea Quartet and the Quatuor Ébène will perform all Quartets - not chronologically ordered, but so that different creative phases stand side by side. In the last concert of the cycle, the Quatuor Ébène presents the 'Rasumowsky-Quartet' No. 1, in whose finale Beethoven honored the dedicatee with allusions to Russian folk music. And afterwards there is a glimpse into Beethoven's workshop: In addition to Quartet op. 130, the ensemble also plays that 'Great Fugue', which was originally planned as the final movement.
