Kosmos Kammermusik: Quatuor Ébène

Beethoven composed 16 String Quartets, over a period of approximately a quarter century he developed the genre from the succession of Haydn to works reaching far into the future. In Beethoven Year 2027, the Belcea Quartet and the Quatuor Ébène will perform all Quartets – not chronologically ordered, but so that different creative phases stand side by side. In this concert, the Quatuor Ébène will present two Quartets from early op. 18, in which Beethoven has bundled six works still entirely in Haydn's manner. Particularly in the A-Major Quartet, Mozart's style can be heard as well. The op. 127 seems to hold onto classical form first among the latest Quartettes; however, it breaks it simultaneously with its often rhapsodic character from within, so to speak.
