About
2027 is a Beethoven Year: Two hundred years ago, the composer passed away, and this orchestra concert will kick off our Beethoven focus, which will reach its peak in the spring. The 'Egmont' Overture and the rhythmically stirring Symphony No. 7 set the stage for the Violin Concerto by Paul Hindemith, which is also celebrating an anniversary in this configuration: Paavo Järvi and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann presented an impressive and multiple award-winning recording of it in 2013, on the 50th anniversary of the composer's death. The Violin Concerto is among the most lyrical works of this composer, whose music is often criticized as 'dry'. Frank Peter Zimmermann finds this criticism unjust, as he perceives it rather as emotional, vivid, and boldly expressive.
