About
A program with a focus on Beethoven in an Anglo-Saxon style? Yes, that's possible. Although Beethoven never visited England, he maintained close connections to London – and composed Scottish and Irish songs, which will be sung by Gregory Feldmann. Additionally, there is instrumental chamber music from the British Frank Bridge, the American Aaron Copland, and Peter Schickele. Lastly, Schickele is best known under a pseudonym: he invented P.D.Q. Bach, the 21st child of the great Johann Sebastian – and presented under this name not only a detailed biography but also enticing musical caricatures of a moderately talented Baroque composer. The piano quintet that he published under his own name, however, is meant in earnest and as sovereignly written as it is varied.
