About
A Saxophon quartet for music from the 18th century? The combination is bold, but the conductor Jan Willem de Vriend has always associated his experiences with historically informed performance practice with a great experimentation spirit. So he conducts arrangements of Mozart's Sinfonia concertante and a 'Kyrie' by Antonio Vivaldi, in which the ensemble Kebyart takes the leading roles. The composers would probably not have objected, as both often dealt with 'exotic' instruments: Mozart composed among other things for the glass harmonica, Vivaldi for the mandolin. If the saxophone had existed in their time, they would hardly have been able to ignore this sound. Interestingly, Mozart himself often appropriated earlier works: Handel's 'Acis and Galatea' is performed in this concert in his version.
