About
Mr. Peachum and his wife run a successful begging business in London, but privately, things are not going so well. Their only daughter, Polly, has fallen in love with Mackie Messer, England's most notorious and elusive thief. He is only still at large because he has bribed the police chief, Tiger Brown, but the situation is becoming increasingly difficult. Brecht's thieves' comedy celebrates human wickedness in a cold and brazen way, so effectively that the moon over Soho seems to be astonished. DIGITAL EDITION introduction to the online release
