New Year's Concert

Babelsberg and Hollywood – these are names that have a legendary ring in the world of film, since the beginnings of cinema. In Babelsberg, just outside Berlin, large silent film productions were created in the 1920s, often accompanied by powerful music in symphonic sound, such as in the monumental film Metropolis according to the screenplay by Thea von Harbou and directed by Fritz Lang. Exactly 100 years after the completion and premiere of this cinematic vision of the future, excerpts from the impressive film music of Gottfried Huppertz will be heard. Likewise on the program are parts from the soundtracks of Gone with the Wind (Vom Winde verweht), a famous Hollywood production from 1939 with music by Max Steiner, as well as a symphonic suite to the equally spectacular film The Adventures of Robin Hood, composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who with his numerous film scores significantly shaped the history of Hollywood from the 1930s to the 1950s.
