Beethoven’s complete incidental music to Goethe’s Egmont, which has long been known for the Overture, reveals the full scope of the composer’s vision. Gustavo leads this score of unyielding intensity, featuring an English text adaptation by playwright Jeremy O. Harris. It follows Beethoven’s String Quartet in C-sharp minor as arranged by former Philharmonic Music Director Dimitri Mitropoulos.
