Salonen Conducts Strauss Tone Poems

Richard Strauss's heroic Don Juan was his first great triumph and a turning point in the young composer’s career. Also known as 'Also sprach Zarathustra', it was famously used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey; its iconic opening, rapturous violin solo, stirring melodies, and vibrant orchestral color are thrilling. A superb fusion of lyricism and solo pyrotechnics makes Lindberg’s Violin Concerto a thrilling experience. Lisa Batiashvili, who premiered the work in 2006, is the soloist, and Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts.
