Donor Rehearsal: Zubin Mehta Conducts Sibelius and Dvořák

Former Music Director Zubin Mehta returns to conduct Sibelius and Dvořák. The young Sibelius aspired to become a violin virtuoso, and his intimate knowledge of the instrument makes his concerto thrilling. The soloist takes flight with a daunting, virtuosic first movement cadenza in a work that seduces with its lush themes. A somber mood permeates much of  Dvořák’s Seventh but is mitigated by a richly melodic slow movement and exuberant Czech folk dance-inspired Scherzo.
