About
To commemorate the passing of Hsu Chang-hui (1929-2001), a key figure in modern Taiwanese music and the initiator of the folk music collection movement, this concert will feature some of Hsu's most representative works, including: a choral piece combining Buddhist chants and Chinese classical literature, titled "Zong Hua Yin" (The Song of Mourning Flowers); a piano concerto blending the structure of Tang Dynasty large-scale music with Taiwanese traditional northern wind music and variations, titled "Bai Jia Chun" (The Spring of Hundred Schools); a modern orchestral rendition of the Qing Dynasty percussion ensemble "Jin Xiu Qian Kun" (The Splendid Cosmos); and the orchestral accompaniment for a dance drama based on Taiwanese Hakka folk songs, titled "Tao".
