Beethoven pioneered vocal symphonies with his "Choral Symphony," while Mahler reached new heights with his "Symphony No. 2," featuring eight soloists, two choirs, and a hundred-member orchestra. The work conveys "the eternal joy of heaven and earth united," Mahler's largest and most ambitious work, which transcends the realm of human voices to become the voice of the universe! Music director Wayne Marshall's "Mahler Project" promises a major highlight this season, with "Symphony No. 8" being a particular focus. This coincides with the 40th anniversary of the NSO.
