About
Recital ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ – An exceptional set of songs about war (The Guardian) War spares no one. In this poignant recital, soprano Anna Prohaska and pianist Eric Schneider give voice to those who leave and those who remain, to those who flee and those who die. The intimate atmosphere of Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf's lieder mixes with the modernism of composers such as Hanns Eisler or Charles Ives. As a born storyteller, Anna Prohaska weaves all these small and large stories of soldiers, in a polyphonic captivating fresco. The program, which unites lieder in five languages, is musically and thematically related to the opera Wozzeck and raises fundamental questions about the impact of war on the individual and society – questions that unfortunately remain of burning relevance.
