About
In the brain, there is a place where music lives... [..], time cannot alter it. Thus begins Lucidity, a psychological drama centered around Lili, a woman suffering from senile dementia. Once a revered singing professor and composer, she now depends on her son Dante, who abandoned his career as a musician to care for her. In the course of her research on music and memory, neurologist Claire Klugman brings them into contact with the young clarinetist Sunny. Bound by music, the four characters are also all marked by loss. In a society increasingly confronted with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, Lucidity explores themes such as identity, mortal condition, and the price of ambition. Through a subtle play with time and space, Mathilda du Tillieul McNicol and Basia Bińkowska create a visual universe reflecting the disorientation at work in Lili's brain. The ending leaves room for newly acquired lucidity: 'I see more clearly than during all these years.'
