About
Concert: Crossing the Atlantic for a Spanish-flavored concert? That's the invitation extended by Diego Matheuz and the Monnaie Symphony Orchestra. The program includes the Glosa Sinfónica Margariteña, which allowed the Venezuelan composer Inocente Carreño to pay tribute to his homeland. Inspired by several traditional songs – such as Margarita es una Lágrima, Canto Del Pilón, Canto de Velorio, and Los Tiguitiguitos – this impressionistic work is considered one of the masterpieces of Venezuelan music. More than 7,000 kilometers away, the Madrid sun inspired Manuel de Falla to create some of his most evocative pieces, such as the Danza ritual del fuego in his ballet El amor brujo, and the Spanish dances in El sombrero de tres picos. Between these two composers, there is only one step, or rather, there is La Mer, which Claude Debussy explored in all its brilliance, dangers, and mysteries.
