About
"Nature knows no standstill; true art walks hand in hand with it." Beethoven was convinced of this, although his groundbreaking compositions presented a significant challenge for his successors. Schumann desperately wanted to write symphonies, but he didn't feel ready until he discovered Schubert's unpublished manuscript of the "Great C Major Symphony" in Vienna. It seemed possible to combine the classical tradition with the world of Romanticism. In just four days, in 1841, Schumann composed his first symphony – and he described the work as being "born in a fiery moment" and "in that springtime urge that affects people from their youth up and every year anew." Aziza Sadikova also draws inspiration from her predecessors, creating impressive compositions. In 2024, our guest conductor Kent Nagano led the premiere of her piece "Colors of Time" in Berlin: It is a fascinating interpretation of Vivaldi's famous "Four Seasons" cycle. A look into the past, but with the possibilities of modern orchestration and many instrumental surprises: Because during the creative process, the Uzbek-German composer reflected on what it was like in the Baroque era, for example, in fashion or architecture. By incorporating everyday sounds, she wants to transport the listener to a dream world – and she says that the movement in the work is as if Vivaldi himself "simply encourages you to continue" and "takes the audience on a great musical journey."
