About
The first major update to the new Opera will be the opera Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, and it will be the first time this masterpiece has been performed in Iceland. The work is based on characters from the plays by William Shakespeare and tells the story of the mischievous protagonist Falstaff's attempts to seduce two wealthy women and then obtain money from their husbands. The women quickly realize what is happening and take action. Falstaff is a lively and humorous opera about deception, trickery, and the follies of human nature. "I was a neighbor, everything was in bloom. This was before I met the milkmaid." Ólafur Kjartan Sigurðarson will take on the title role, and he is one of the most celebrated singers in the country. He has also performed leading roles in operas around the world. The other roles will be played by a cast of talented singers, including Brynhildur Guðjónsdóttir, who will direct the opera, and Alexander Joel, who will be the musical director. The opera will be performed in Icelandic in a new translation by Sólveiga Sigurðardóttir and Þórhall Auð Helgason, who are also known for their translations of operas for Óds. The production will be staged at Eldborg in Harpa, in collaboration with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, and the orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment.
