No class struggle, no French Revolution, the focus lies on the power of music: With this staging, Stefan Herheim offers a counterpoint to the often highly political interpretation of this work. What interests him is the 'egoism as drive of the world, but also as prerequisite of love'. And because the stage design made up of 1500 sheet music sheets has all characters meet at eye level, misunderstandings are naturally included.
