About
Even the Scissor Sisters knew: 'A kiki is a party for calming all your nerves …' – and so it shall be here too. Let’s have a Kiki builds on something that the Hamburg State Opera's program already inherently includes: music theater has always told stories about queer figures, ambivalent desire, role reversals, but also about societal boundaries. Queer narratives are not an addition, but a cornerstone of our repertoire for the Hamburg State Opera – because they make power relations visible, question norms, and make other forms of coexistence imaginable. On two evenings, queer artists will bring these perspectives to the center of the opera stabile. They curate programs between music and performance and open up, in the subsequent conversation, questions about queerness as a societal potential, before the whole thing naturally has to be danced. And properly. Until early in the morning.
