An iconic opera. To this day, the figure of Carmen marks in the collective Western memory the relationship between seductress and freedom fighter. In his 2022 Hamburg production, Herbert Fritsch transformed Bizet's Opéra Comique from 1875 into an unprecedented fireworks display of colors, surpassing stereotypes of passion, betrayal, and murder with the vigor of the music itself.
