Un ballo in maschera

To be a king is not easy. For Gustavo III. of Sweden loves Amelia, the wife of his friend and advisor Renato, Count Anckarström. When he learns of this, he joins a group of conspirators and kills his once-best friend during a masquerade ball. Giuseppe Verdi masterfully portrays a sinister society of double-dealing, where contradictions lurk behind masks and disguises.
