About
Yerai Cortés has become one of the most fascinating, innovative, and essential figures in contemporary flamenco. With a masterful guitar technique and boundless sensitivity, the musician has succeeded in transcending traditional boundaries to create a captivating dialogue between the living heritage of the genre and the most daring languages of contemporary music. Driven by the impact of the acclaimed documentary "La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés" (directed by Antón Álvarez and awarded two Goya Awards), and with the support of his nomination for a Latin Grammy Award as Best New Artist, Cortés not only plays the guitar: he sculpts the rhythm, evokes the spirit in the silences, and reivindicates the popular soul of this profound art with an unmistakable lyrical maturity. In his project, "POPULAR," the Alacant-based artist expands his open and free vision of flamenco to transform the live performance into a powerful poetic, visual, and emotional experience. On stage, his stripped-down and virtuoso playing intertwines hypnotically with six female voices, percussion, and palmas, dispensing with any artifice to return the spotlight to the raw truth of the music. After conquering prestigious international venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, Montreux, Primavera Sound, and the Grec, his performance is consecrated as a ritual in which memory and the future coexist in perfect balance.
