About
In 1837, Mendelssohn composed his Second Piano Concerto shortly after his marriage, performing it at a packed Birmingham music festival. The piece reflects the couple's newfound happiness, with a final movement of vibrant joy. In 1981, the Neue Gewandhaus opened, marking 200 years of Gewandhaus concerts. Schnittke's Third Symphony explored the new hall's acoustics, blending styles and faking historical influences, creating a kaleidoscopic collage with unconventional instruments.
