About
In this event, the Gewandhausorchester, under Kurt Masur, performs 'Zerronnenes Licht,' a piece inspired by Masur's memory and incorporating elements from the composer's earlier work. The atmosphere is magical, with the brass holding their breath and the percussion tense as the orchestra brings to life a parable of a reckless apprentice. The piece reflects on themes of knowledge, politics, and poetry, with a nod to Goethe and Dukas, marking the 100th anniversary of the original ballade.
