About
Grażyna Bacewicz never went far afield, as a composer she went straight to the point. So, too, in her concise Concerto for String Orchestra: a pithy accent to start, and immediately small motivic fragments are pushed in the same direction as if by an invisible motor – forward, uphill, with emphasis. With a similar energy in ›Absolute Jest‹, John Adams developed from his basic musical material a gripping drive – having been inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven to take this approach: From the tiniest ideas, the classic composer created a monument in sound with his powerful Seventh Symphony.
