She was a pioneer of New Music: In no time at all, the pianist Yvonne Loriod was able to see through the most complicated works and fill them with soul in her interpretation. Not only did her future husband, Olivier Messiaen, ask her to proofread his compositions, she also taught generations of students – including her own piano student Kent Nagano – what makes for good music.
