The Cleveland Orchestra

Hear “America’s finest” orchestra (The New York Times) in a full concert of works by Richard Strauss, a composer of enormous importance to conductor Franz Welser-Möst. In the liner notes of Wesler-Möst’s “essential” (Gramophone) all-Strauss recording with The Cleveland Orchestra, he writes, “Strauss’s gift for commenting on human behavior and in touching our hearts through music is peerless … [he is] a master of heartache, of yearnings, drama, comedy, and tragedy.” Experience Strauss’s sweeping emotional range and stunning orchestral colors in the Suite from Daphne, Metamorphosen, and the intimate-but-heroic Symphonia domestica, which received its world premiere on this stage under Strauss’s own baton.
