This concert embodies the theme Libertad o destino ( Freedom or Fate) with particular clarity. Beethoven opens the programme with Egmont , music of resistance against oppression, in which individual tragedy becomes a catalyst for emancipation. Next, Calm Sea and Happy Voyage transforms the stillness of the windless sea into movement, breath and arrival: a small musical allegory of the journey from paralysis to freedom.
