Venues in United Kingdom
Glyndebourne
Founded in 1934 by John Christie, Glyndebourne is one of the world's most celebrated opera festivals, set in the grounds of a country house in the South Downs of East Sussex. Its purpose-built opera house, rebuilt in 1994, seats 1,200. The Festival runs each summer and the Glyndebourne on Tour takes productions across the UK in autumn.
The Glasshouse ICM
The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly Sage Gateshead) opened in 2004 on the south bank of the Tyne, designed by Norman Foster. Its three performance spaces include the 1,700-seat Hall One, home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia. The building's distinctive curved glass and steel shell has become an icon of the Tyne riverfront.
Royal Albert Hall
Opened in 1871 and dedicated to Prince Albert, the Royal Albert Hall is one of the world's most famous and distinctive concert halls. The elliptical Victorian amphitheatre in Kensington seats 5,272 and hosts over 390 events a year, from classical concerts and opera to rock, comedy, and award ceremonies. It is best known as the home of the BBC Proms every summer.
Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, is one of the world's great opera and ballet venues. The current building dates from 1858 and seats 2,268. It is home to the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet, presenting over 400 performances a year of opera, ballet, and associated events. The house is renowned for its world-class productions and roster of international artists.
Royal Northern Sinfonia
Royal Northern Sinfonia is the resident orchestra of The Glasshouse ICM in Gateshead. Founded in 1958, it is one of only a handful of full-time chamber orchestras in the world and performs across the North East of England and beyond. The orchestra plays at The Glasshouse ICM and tours to venues including Middlesbrough Town Hall and Sage Gateshead venues.
Symphony Hall Birmingham
Symphony Hall opened in 1991 as the permanent home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO). Its main auditorium seats 2,262 and is consistently ranked among the world's finest concert halls for acoustics. The adjacent Town Hall hosts chamber concerts and recitals.
