Teatro alla Scala, opened in 1778, is the world's most celebrated opera house. Located in the heart of Milan, it seats 2,030 and has been the site of world premieres by Verdi, Puccini, and countless others. La Scala's season opens each December 7th — the feast of Milan's patron saint Sant'Ambrogio — making it one of the most prestigious nights in the operatic calendar.
