Teatro alla Scala
Teatro alla Scala, opened in 1778, is the world's most celebrated opera house. Located in the heart of Milan, it seats 2,030 and has been the site of world premieres by Verdi, Puccini, and countless others. La Scala's season opens each December 7th — the feast of Milan's patron saint Sant'Ambrogio — making it one of the most prestigious nights in the operatic calendar.
Arena di Verona
The Arena di Verona is a Roman amphitheatre built in 30 AD and one of the best-preserved ancient structures in the world. Seating up to 15,000, it has hosted the Arena di Verona Opera Festival since 1913, staging grand-scale productions of Aida, Nabucco, and other operatic classics under the open sky. The adjacent Teatro Filarmonico hosts the orchestral and concert season.
Teatro La Fenice
Teatro La Fenice is one of the most famous opera houses in the world and Italy's most celebrated venue. First opened in 1792 and rebuilt twice after fires — most recently in 2003 — it seats 1,076 in the Gran Teatro. La Fenice has premiered works by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Stravinsky, and remains a jewel of Venetian cultural life.
