Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
Opened in 1913, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on avenue Montaigne is one of Paris's most prestigious concert halls and opera venues. Its Art Deco exterior by the Perret brothers and bas-reliefs by Antoine Bourdelle make it an architectural landmark, while its 1,905-seat auditorium is celebrated for its clarity of sound.
Philharmonie de Paris
The Philharmonie de Paris opened in January 2015 as the centrepiece of a new music campus in the Parc de la Villette. Designed by Jean Nouvel, its Grande salle Pierre Boulez seats 2,400 and is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and intimacy. It is home to the Orchestre de Paris and draws the world's finest orchestras and soloists for a season spanning symphonic, baroque, jazz, and contemporary music.
Opéra de Paris
The Opéra national de Paris operates two main houses: the Opéra Bastille (opened 1989, 2,745 seats), the modern main stage for large-scale opera; and the Palais Garnier (opened 1875, 1,979 seats), the ornate 19th-century house primarily used for ballet. Together they form one of the world's leading opera institutions, presenting a broad repertoire of opera, ballet, and concerts.
Opéra de Lyon
The Opéra national de Lyon occupies a striking building on Place de la Comédie redesigned by Jean Nouvel in 1993, topped with a barrel-vaulted glass roof. Its main auditorium seats 1,100 and is one of France's leading opera and dance venues, with an adventurous programming philosophy.
Opéra National du Rhin
Founded in 1972 as a lyric centre serving Alsace and the Upper Rhine region, the Opéra National du Rhin presents opera, ballet, and concerts across three cities: Strasbourg, Mulhouse, and Colmar. Its main home is the Opéra de Strasbourg, a neoclassical theatre on Place Broglie dating from 1821.
