About
Classical, Romantic, Modern: these three eras come together harmoniously in the Camerata Salzburg’s concert, conducted by Finnegan Downie Dear. The focus is on chamber music. Pianist Alexandre Tharaud, who already impressed the audience at the Vienna Konzerthaus with his outstanding expertise in French piano music during his recital in 2024, is the soloist in Ravel’s Piano Concerto. From Haydn to Bartók Bartók’s lively Divertimento for Strings, influenced by his research into folk music, opens the evening. The second half of the concert begins with Liszt’s spiritual »Angelus!« from his »Années de pèlerinage«, arranged for chamber orchestra. The finale is one of Haydn’s London Symphonies. In his »Symphony with the Timpani Roll«, the composer, who always surprised London audiences, incorporated a witty effect right at the start, which later gave the work its nickname. »What a chap! How wretched we are compared to that!«, wrote Brahms about his fellow composer with regard to the London Symphonies.
