About
For composers, migrating from one's homeland to a foreign land is more than a geographical displacement; it is a reconfiguration of memory, identity, and creative language. As familiar landscapes recede into the distance, the homeland passes from lived reality into memory, where it is reimagined between the forces of time and forgetting. In the wake of exile and migration, composers may turn back toward inherited traditions or absorb the sounds of the New World, recasting their artistic identities in the process. Migration leaves them suspended between two worlds: on the one hand, confronting displacement and oblivion; on the other, discovering the freedom to create anew. The "New World," therefore, is not merely a new country, but a place where the Old World can be heard again through memory. And there, on foreign shores, those forgotten romance may continue to resonate.
