About
Dang Thai Son, the first Asian laureate in the history of the Chopin International Piano Competition, has spent a lifetime refining an innate lyricism to a state of pure, translucent clarity. This recital opens with Mompou, then conjures the most exquisite French colour through Ravel's Miroirs. After the interval he returns to Chopin — two nocturnes, a polonaise and an impromptu, three mazurkas, and, to close, a ballade of real dramatic weight. And here we hear just how completely Dang Thai Son fuses the singing line and the dance.
