Paavo Järvi & Hayato Sumino

With the Prokofiev Cycle, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich continues its collaboration with the Opera House Zurich, which began in 2023 with the Rachmaninoff Cycle. The first concert of this cycle is also the debut of Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino – who has as many fans in the real concert world as he does on YouTube. He plays Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3, which was premiered in Chicago with the composer as soloist in 1921. Paavo Järvi conducts Symphony No. 4 in its 1947 version. Lastly, there is – as in most programs of this cycle – an orchestra work by our Creative Chair Dieter Ammann: 'Turn' once again highlights not only his preference for short titles, but also his talent for clear, energetic gestures.
