About
The annual Chamber Music Lunch Concerts are themed around 'Alpine Resonances – Switzerland as a Source of Inspiration for Chamber Music'. To kick off the series, the Ilios Quartet, founded in 1997, will perform a work by Austrian composer and Brahms friend Heinrich von Herzogenberg. Together with his wife, they spent multiple holidays in Appenzellerland, building their summer house 'Abendroth' in Heiden in 1891. For Felix Mendelssohn, Switzerland was a place of inspiration and solace that helped him to artistic creativity. During his fourth and final visit to Switzerland, he tried to find 'new attitude' after the early death of his sister, as he put it. Here, his moving String Quartet 'Requiem for Fanny' was created. It is his last completed work: A few months later, he too passed away.
