About
Tens of thousands of visitors every year, standing ovations, and a fan culture worthy of rock stars: the duo Café del Mundo is Germany’s most successful guitar export. With their unique blend of flamenco, classical music, jazz, pop, and rock, Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian are completely redefining the classical instrument that is the guitar. They seem like “fire and water” — and it is precisely from this tension that they draw their magical energy. The protagonists Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian could hardly be more different in character, yet on stage they merge into a world-class unity. Their live performances are captivating dialogues that regularly bring audiences to their feet. The Süddeutsche Zeitung summed it up perfectly with the accolade “audibly limitless.” Café del Mundo proves that the flamenco guitar can grow far beyond traditional folklore. Their repertoire builds a bold bridge between worlds. Alexander Kilian, a formally trained jazz guitarist regarded as a “guitar prodigy,” explains the duo’s vision: “We see our contribution to the guitar in bringing this wonderful instrument into grand entertainment. Out of the niche — and onto stages worldwide.” This vision has already taken them to legendary places such as Abbey Road Studios in London and brought them together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for recordings.
