Three-act opera with prologue and epilogue. Music by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880). Libretto in French by Jules Barbier based on the theatrical piece Les contes fantastiques d’Hoffmann (1851) written together with Michel Carré, inspired by tales by E.T.A. Hoffmann.
