About
Settle in for musical storytelling in a concert including Adolphus Hailstork’s reverent Sonata da chiesa and Haydn’s Farewell Symphony, with its surprise ending. Opening the programme, Hailstork’s Sonata da chiesa brings together the grandeur of the church sonata tradition with a distinctly modern voice – rich, expressive and alive with rhythmic energy. Tonight, Chineke! Orchestra and director-violinist Julian Azkoul pair Hailstork’s reverent work with Haydn’s celebrated Farewell Symphony, taking us from solemnity to wit, from tradition to innovation, and from collective celebration to an unforgettable act of musical theatre.
