Pianist Alexandre Kantorow and violinist Liya Petrova bring together a group of exceptional musicians to explore chamber music at its most intimate and expansive. The pair co-curate chamber music festival Musikfest in Paris, and they bring a taste of this to our hall in an evening of Bach, Liszt, Debussy and Franck. Alexandre Kantorow opens solo with Liszt’s profound Variations on ‘Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen’. Written in the shadow of personal loss, they take a darkly descending bassline by Bach on a journey from grief towards affirmation.
