Julia Fischer & Yulianna Avdeeva: Beethoven

These long-standing musical partners bring their expressive chemistry to three centuries of the violin sonata, from Handel to Beethoven’s mighty Kreutzer. Violinist Julia Fischer has been internationally celebrated for decades as both a soloist and chamber musician. Here she joins her regular piano partner Yulianna Avdeeva in music built around the interplay of two equal voices. Handel offers poise and clarity, while Respighi’s B minor Sonata inhabits a far more opulent world. Written in 1917, its sweeping melodies and rich harmonies build towards a powerful final Passacaglia, where an ancient musical form is transformed with passionate 20th-century intensity.
