Javier Perianes Plays Schumann

Passion and playfulness collide in tonight’s concert from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, joined by Javier Perianes in Schumann’s heartfelt Piano Concerto. ‘Peace, peace in the lark’s song, in the gusts of the wind, in the waves of grass!’ runs the poem that inspired Webern’s gorgeous Im Sommerwind , as all of nature echoes the artist’s dreams. Robert Schumann’s charming Piano Concerto is filled with coded love messages to his wife Clara, and if any pianist can bring out both its passion and its playfulness, it’s Javier Perianes – hailed by The Times for his ‘evident modesty and utter brilliance’.
