About
Which language connects all countries on Earth? Dance exists worldwide – but it is expressed with a different "accent" everywhere. The ballet performance "Different Grounds" brings three choreographic perspectives from three continents to the stage. The choreographers, Australian Stephanie Lake (Quanta), French Julian Nicosia (A Quiet Collision), and Israeli Shahar Binyamini (Body Suites), created their first work for the large stage of the Semperoper, also designing the lighting and costumes. Despite their differences, the three choreographers share a common approach: they are strongly inspired by the dancers with whom they develop the vocabulary of steps together. Since these dancers have been trained in classical dance, numerous ballet elements have found their way into the work of the contemporary choreographers, from the five basic positions to pointe shoes. Thus, the three pieces that appear in the ballet performance "Different Grounds" not only build bridges between different dance styles, but also between tradition and modernity.
